Joanne Chiang (1995) is a London-based Taiwanese classical percussionist. Her performances focus on the experiences in theatre and performing arts.
Joanne had her solo debut in England, performing the world premiere of Buried Chants by Rūta Vitkauskaitė, commissioned by the Royal Academy of Music in 2020. In May 2021, she performed 'drumming' with Colin Currie at the RAM at a percussion showcase. She also started collaborating on projects with many young composers and musicians, such as BBC4 producer Emma Harding, composer Li Zhenyan, Ng Yuhng, Bernardo Simoes and Emre Sener. At age 20, she worked as a cast member in the Shanghai Disney Resort. In 2018, she toured with an Off-Broadway musical 'Murder Ballad' as a percussionist and drummer throughout China. She is pursuing her musical career as a percussionist at West End theatres and the symphony orchestra.
Joanne is currently studying for her MA degree at the Royal Academy of Music, under professor Neil Percy and Simon Carrington. Previously she studied her BA degree at the Taipei National University of Arts and a year exchange programme at the Sibelius Academy, the University of Arts Helsinki in Finland.
